My wife and I walked down to the Nile River today, about a block from our apartment. We sat there admiring the view for about forty minutes. She spotted this crane flying low over the water and I got the camera up just in time to snap this great picture. Note the shadow on the rock.
Stuff that interests me about writing military thrillers set during World War II: The Sgt. Dunn series.

Castle Breach
Neil
Marston, the British spy from Operation
Devil’s Fire and Saving Paris, is
back. He’s impersonating an SS major assigned as a staff officer at the
exclusive Hohenstein Castle, located south of Salzburg, Austria. The castle is
known for elegantly hosting high level SS meetings throughout the war. He
learns of a dinner meeting with no less than the Führer himself, who is making a rare appearance outside Germany. He
advises England, and waits.
U.S.
Army Ranger Sergeant Tom Dunn’s new assignment takes him and his men to Greece.
The plan is to work with the Greek Resistance to destroy a German supply depot
because the Germans are preparing to leave western Greece to face off against
the Red Army steamrolling through the Balkans.
Marston’s
request is approved and British Commando Sergeant Malcolm Saunders, recently
married, earns the task of breaching the castle. His orders: kill the top Nazis
who will be attending. Saunders and his squad rush to rehearse the attack and
are then on their way to Austria.
At
the castle, Hitler reveals surprising and exciting news. Another guest, a
member of the Abwehr, Military
Intelligence, presents the Führer
with an intelligence coup that delights the dictator. Marston immediately
recognizes the extreme danger it poses to the U.S. Army. He prays that Saunders
arrives on time and can be flexible in his attack.
Saunders
suddenly faces an impossible situation when things go deadly awry. He has no
choice but to call for help from the one man who always delivers, Tom Dunn.
But
Dunn has serious problems of his own in Greece.
Munsterman raises the
stakes in book seven of the Sgt. Dunn WWII Action Thriller series. He takes the
reader to the mountains of Austria and the coastline of Greece, blending
history with an action-packed plot.

Photos of the week - Lake Superior
A few years ago we spent some time (in August) on Lake Superior. Here are some of my favorite pics from that trip. We were in and around Two Harbors, MN.
But first:
Things you don't know about other places.
We found a nice resort with cabins right above the water. To make a reservation, you had to call, which I did. We concluded that and then my wife asked me to inquire about air conditioning. So I asked, and the guy, bless his heart, chuckled in a kind way and said that the highs were around 70 degrees, and at night with the wind coming off the lake, it'd be a nice 55 or so. And he was right! It was perfect.

Note the seagull.
Heading south - one of two awesome tunnels
The 1,004 foot long Edgar Speer coming in to dock.
A tiny ship. No, a 700 foot ship laying off for the Speer to dock first.
Docked!
Lucky shot, just caught the butterfly as it took off from the flower.

Made me laugh out loud. Really.

Happy Day! The first draft for Sgt. Dunn novel #7, Castle Breach, is Done.
I discovered just how much writing I can do for an extended period. The answer is 46,000 words in 20 days for an average of about 2,300 per day (about 8 or so book pages).
The result is a completed first draft of Sgt. Dunn novel #7, Castle Breach. My hope is to publish the book in mid- to late February, with mid being my preference. And gauging from my reader emails, theirs, too.
So here's what's left:
8 edits by me.
2 edits by my wonderful wife.
7 FIRST READERS to give me feedback on the story.
Publish for Kindle.
Publish paperback.
Start on book 8 as yet, untitled (hint: think of a really, really, brutally cold place, not Antarctica, the other one).
Check back often to see where I am on my edits! It'll be on the left side of this blog.
